Bonneau's School of Taekwon-Do
The Bonneau's School of Taekwon-DO has been a part of the Old Orchard Beach Recreation Department since 1998. The Korean martial art of Taekwon-Do is taught with an emphasis on getting physically fit while learning practical self-defense techniques. As part of our training, Korean terms are used, as well as learning basic Korean history related to our training. This is a continuing program, where students can train year-round, and could eventually earn their Black Belt!
Bonneau’s School of Taekwon-Do has been a Rec Program since 1998. Originally called Koryo Karate School, the school was renamed in 2018 to Bonneau’s School of Taekwon-Do as that more accurately reflects the martial art that is taught. The primary art taught is Taekwon-Do, which is a Korean martial art that is designed to teach you all your basic techniques (blocks, kicks, stances and strikes). Also incorporated into the training is the use of ground fighting and joint manipulation as well as the use of heavy bags to work on proper execution and power.
The head instructor is David H Bonneau. Mr. Bonneau is a retired Police Officer, having spent over 33 years in Law Enforcement. He was a Defensive Tactics Instructor at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was the lead instructor for the Pre-Service Defensive Tactics Program in Southern Maine, where the summer reserves are trained.
